Use Windows Live Writer to post your entries to the Foxite.COM Community Weblog

Windows Live Writer is a desktop application that makes it easier to compose compelling blog posts using Windows Live Spaces or your other blogging services such as the Community Server I'm using to host the Foxite.COM Community Weblog.

Go here for more information: http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/blog/
Download your copy of the Windows Live Writer here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/9/a/f9a19f2d-cec4-4a25-9b0b-eb9655ea7561/Writer.msi

Installation instructions

  • download and launch the installer
  • agree to the terms of use and privacy stuff and click Next
  • uncheck the checkbox if you don't want to install the optional Windows Live toolbar for Internet Explorer
  • click Finish
  • start the Windows Live Writer (there's a link in your start menu)
  • click Next
  • select "Another weblog service" and click Next
  • in the Weblog Homepage URL textbox, enter http://weblogs.foxite.com/<your_alias>. Replace <your_alias> with your own alias name. For example, mine is http://weblogs.foxite.com/ericdendoop.
  • Enter your username and password
  • click Next
  • from the "Type of weblog" combo, select "Community Server"
  • in the Remote Posting URL, replace <hostname> with weblogs.foxite.com. The complete URL should be http://weblogs.foxite.com/blogs/metablog.ashx
  • click Next
  • select your weblog from the listbox
  • click Next
  • now the installer tries to download the weblog editing style. It will probably fail. No worries, as you really don't need this feature. If you get an error messagebox, click OK.
  • click Finish

The Windows Live Writer is now configured for the Foxite.COM Community Weblog. Have fun!

NOTE: I had to set a Date/Time in the message properties to get this entry published on the weblog site.  To set the date/time, hit F2 in the Windows Live Writer editor. You should then see a Properties tab at the bottom of the screen. Activate the Date/Time  checkbox and click the Publish button from the toolbar.

NOTE2: Please keep in mind that your post may not show up right away because of server side caching.

Very COOL !
Can you allow us to publish photos too ?
As you know, I'm always publishing pictures, and this task is really very time consuming.
Thanks
Cesar

Sorry Cesar, but the current version of CommunityServer does not support publishing pictures. The only two ways are by adding an attachment thru to use the web interface, or by adding the pictures to the photo gallery. There isn't much I can do about it.
