USE IT OR LOSE IT

Phew! It’s been a long hot summer, but we are now getting towards the end of it and it is time to start thinking about the Fall Conference Season. I just received an E-Mail from Bob Kocher, founder and organizer of SW Fox (which has simply got to be the best VFP Conference this side of the Atlantic this year) and he was saying that as of right now the pre-booked registrations are at a surprisingly low level.

Look, there is no doubt at all that SW Fox is going to be THE FoxPro event of the year, in addition to both Marcia and myself, the speakers this year include such well-known names as:

·         Ken Levy

·         Tamar Granor

·         Doug Hennig

·         Mike Feltman

·         Nancy Folsom

·         Rick Schummer

·         Cathy Pountney

·         Craig Berntson

·         Rick Borup:

Also making a welcome return after a long absence from  FoxPro conferences are both

·         Jim Booth

·         Rod Paddock

While new (at least to SW Fox) speakers include

·         Bill Anderson (of LA Fox)

·         Christof Wollenhaupt (of Advisor Answers and On-line forums everywhere)

·         Claudio Lassala (of EPS Software and Universal Thread)

For full details of all speakers, sessions and costs go NOW to www.swfox.net

(NOTE: Those who went to SW Fox 2005 qualify for a reduced rate for another few weeks – but this will run out soon)

I cannot emphasize how vital it is that you lend your support to SW Fox. If Bob can’t get the numbers to at least break even, then the conference will have to close its doors after this year.

And yes, I do know that Whil did an unexpected conference in the spring, and that some people who would otherwise have gone to SW Fox went there “instead”. And Advisor and Fox Forward are not helping much either. By cramming these conferences into August/September (and remember that both chose their dates AFTER SW Fox had already been announced) the pool of people who will go to a conference this Fall is being diluted to point where it is entirely possible that none of them will survive into next year!

As I have said many times before, unless we, the FoxPro Community, support the people who organize these conferences they will go away! We have already lost both Essential Fox and the full Great Lakes Great Database Workshop (aka WhilFest). Unless a few more of those who profess to support FoxPro and the community start registering for the conference we may lose SW Fox too – and that would be a real pity!

Hi Andy,

I agree with you, last year's Southwest Fox 2005 was the best conference of any type I have attended. I have attended the VFP/Dev Essentials & GLGDW since 2002. Great job to Bob Kocher, the presenters, and other attendees for making the conference effective and rewarding. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. Bob stepped forward to fill the gap left by the loss of DevEssentials & GLGDW.

Absolutely! I could not agree more

Even though I am on the right coast (PA) the trip to the southwest is a no-brainer. I typically stay another week after the conference to enjoy Tucson, Sedona and the Grand Canyon. You can see by the SWFox site Bob is promoting this experience. I can't think of anything I would want to see in Atlanta.

Apart from the way out you mean? :)

I registered early and look forward to seeing you at your pre-conference session. Just promise me you will let me buy Marcia and yourself a drink :-)

That's a given! You know where to find us!

If we lose SWFox, this will sadden me on many levels.

Let's hope that a few more people realize the danger and decide that we can't afford to let this one go too!

What do you think?
